What is normal or considered normal is not only controversial, it also changes, sometimes rapidly. The concept of normality is a shimmering one. Is it about a standard to be achieved? Or is “normal” not so good, but at best of average quality, like regular petrol in the past, which was not super? What would it mean if the world, which has lost its balance, were to return (?) to a “normal state”?
So what does normality mean in a time of constant states of emergency – be it due to pandemics, wars, climate change or new technologies? What constitutes a “normal” German? What is a ’normal‘ man, a ’normal‘ woman and how do we define psychological ’normality‘? What does a “normal” commitment to society look like?
Over seven evenings, we will get to the bottom of the concept of normality, be inspired by speakers from different scientific disciplines and invite you to discuss the “normal” with us.
The lecture series at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences is a series of events in which several speakers focus on one overarching topic. Diverse perspectives and an understandable and appealing presentation are the top priorities. The lecture series is aimed at interested members of the public and members of academic fields.
